Becoming a member of a competitive synchronized skating team requires that you make a personal commitment to your coach and teammates and that you will dedicate yourself to providing the time, energy, and skill level required of a team skater. A team functions as a unit and just one person missing from a practice or performance can cause that unit to not function properly. Being a member of a team can be a rewarding experience that includes travel, competition, team spirit and new friends. There are, however, rules and procedures to follow to maintain a competitive team.

Attendance

A. Rehearsal Attendance - Attendance at all regular on-ice and off-ice rehearsals is mandatory. Additional rehearsals are scheduled as needed and attendance at these sessions is also mandatory.

Skaters are required to arrive ten minutes before the rehearsal is scheduled to begin to allow time to stretch and put on skates. It is important to call the team operations manager if you will miss a practice for any reason. Excessive absence can result in a skater being assigned to alternate status.

There is no distinction made between an “excused” or an “unexcused” absence.

B. Illness and Injury - In the event of an injury, the skater will “sideline” the rehearsal (this means the skater will come to the rink and observe the rehearsal, so that they will be aware of any changes to the program.)  In the case of an illness, parents should use their judgment about whether or not a skater should sideline a rehearsal.  A skater who sidelines a rehearsal will not be counted as absent, however any skater who sidelines any portion of more than three rehearsals will be required to provide a doctors note.

C. Tardiness / Leaving Early - If a skater is late for a rehearsal or leaves more than ten minutes before the rehearsal is over it will count as one half absence.  Any skater who needs to be dismissed before the end of a rehearsal needs to let the team operations manager know at the beginning of the rehearsal.

D. Missed Performances - Attendance at all competitions and exhibition events is mandatory for all team skaters, regardless of whether they are skating the program or are assigned as an alternate for that event. In the event that a skater is injured and is unable to skate or perform the duties of the alternate, they are expected to attend the performance in support of their teammates.  Any skater who knows they will miss a performance must notify the team operations manager 45 days prior to the performance.  Missed performances will be counted as a double-absence.

E. Consequences of Excessive Absence - Skaters are allowed no more than four absences in the “pre-season” (March 1st to Aug. 31st) and five absences during “competition season” (Sept. 1st , 2006 to Feb. 28th, 2007). Absences in excess of this amount will result in the assessment of fines to be paid to the team treasury before the skater will be allowed back on the ice. Fines will start at $10 and double with each additional absence. Any skater with six or more absences during competition season may be assigned to alternate status regardless of fines having been paid for the excessive absences. The three rehearsals immediately preceding any performance are not to be missed or the coach may assign the skater to alternate status for that event.  Any skater who misses the last rehearsal prior to a performance should expect to perform the duties of an alternate.

F. Long Term Absence - Long term / continuous absence may be exempt from fines during the pre-season only.  A written request stating the exact dates of absence should be submitted to The Team Operations Manager no later than 45 days prior to the start of said absence. Please note that the monthly fees still need to be paid during the prolonged absence.

Fees

A. Payment of Skating Team Fees - Monthly fees are due at the first rehearsal of each period and are considered late after the 15th of the month. Monthly fees will be communicated at the first parent meeting. An estimated Annual Forecast of costs will be given at this meeting. Skaters are responsible for the cost of all returned checks. A $15.00 late fee will be assessed after the 15th of the month. Any skater who has not paid the monthly dues by the 15th of each month will not be allowed on the ice until payment is made.

B. Team Assessment Fees - The Team Assessment fee covers the cost of music and other miscellaneous team expenses.  Such fees are specific, one time only collections, and are always brought before the full membership for approval. The membership will vote on assessment fees. Assessment fees are expected to be paid in advance.

C. Individual Assessment Fees - Members will be billed individually for specific costs paid for them by the team. Examples include the team competition costume, team warm up outfit, skate bag, make-up, etc. Assessment fees are expected to be paid in advance.

D. Commitment Fee - This fee is used to protect the remaining members of the team from an increase in their monthly fees in the event a team member does not complete the entire season for any reason. The fee is paid in advance and is fully refundable upon completion of the season or may be rolled over and used towards the next year’s commitment fees.
