Alison Kending Wade has been coaching ice skating for nearly 20 years.
Her first teaching job was at her home rink in Superior, Wisconsin in 1988, and her professional career has included coaching at rinks in Spooner, WI, Red Wing, MN, and Edina, MN, as well as at various rinks in Southern California. Before coaching, Alison enjoyed an amateur competitive career in the Upper Great Lakes region of the country, and skated on the Northern Lights Precision skating team in Duluth, Minnesota. Over the years, Alison’s skating has been featured in several television commercials, and most recently she was a cast member of “Legends On Ice” which starred such greats as Dorothy Hamill, Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner. In 2004 Alison married her husband Jason. The couple lives in Manhattan Beach, California, and is expecting their first child near the end of this year.
Alison founded our synchronized skating team in 1997. At that time we were an ISI team known as “The Crystalettes” and skated at the Ice Chalet in Palos Verdes, CA. In 2002, Alison moved the team to its current home, The Skating Edge, in Harbor City, California, so that they could represent The South Bay Figure Skating Club. She renamed the team “The South Bay Sunsets” and in just two years expanded the program to include teams in two USFS age divisions. Alison says her proudest moment as the coach of The Sunsets was watching both teams earn medals at the 2005-06 sectional championships in Seattle, WA. |
